What cleaning products or solutions are recommended for silverware?

We recommend using products specifically designed for cleaning silver. In the Hagerty range, you'll find a range of products that will restore the shine of your silverware (polish, chamois, gloves, spray, foam, paste, bath).

What product should I use to clean a damaged silver object with a worn silver coating?

Use Hagerty Silver & Multimetal Foam.

Which product should I choose for a "de-silvered" silver object?

Use Hagerty Silver & Multimetal Foam.

Can I clean all types of silver the same way?

No. For optimum cleaning, we recommend using a specific product for each type of silver object:

- Tableware (cutlery, trays, teapots, etc.): prefer products that can be rinsed off, so that no food or drink comes into contact with any traces of product.

For this, choose the "Silverware and Kitchen Cleaners" range.

- Decoration (frames, vases, candlesticks, etc.): choose products from our "Decorative Object Cleaners" range.

- Chiselled or engraved objects (frames, vases, candlesticks, etc.): use a spray with a thin layer of formula that will not leave deposits in the grooves (such as Hagerty Silver Spray).

How can I clean very dirty or oxidised silver?

Use a mechanical cleaning method, using Silver Polish (cleaning lotion) or Silver Care (special silver cleaning paste).

What are the risks associated with cleaning silver?

Choosing a product that is not suitable for silver or silver metal.

Leaving the formula to act for too long on your silver piece (do not respect the time indicated on the packaging).

How can I store and prevent my silver from tarnishing or discolouring?

Store your silver in specially impregnated pouches to slow down oxidation and prevent scratching.

Store your silver in a dry place away from light.

Can I use bicarbonate of soda or vinegar to clean my silver?

Yes, but we strongly advise against it.

Grandmother's recipes may be environmentally friendly and save you having to buy other products, but they are not specifically designed for silver. You run the risk of damaging your pieces by using these household products if you use them in the wrong way. What's more, they don't protect against oxidation after washing, so your objects will quickly become oxidised again.

When is the best time to clean my silver?

As soon as you need it.

Thanks to Hagerty products, don't hesitate to use your silverware, cleaning is so easy.

The lotion has dried, what should I do?

Rinse with water and dry well.
